Game Overhaul


In this new version I worked on and improved many features, but most notable are:

  • Player model and behavior
  • User Interface
  • Combat
  • Levels
  • Bug fixes

The player has a new model with new animations that fit the game better, in addition,  I improved the leveling system to contribute more to the player overall. For example, for every point put into constitution or wisdom, your health or mana will increase more than before along with the rate at which it regenerates.

Almost all of the UI has been improved, most notable though is now there is a general theme for the UI that matches the game's theme. In addition, it is now more user friendly and responsive.  Pausing the game, opening the skill tree, or character sheet now pause the game, where before only pausing stopped the game. Every button makes a clicking sound when pressed and lights up when hovered giving a better response than before.  There is now a prologue to the game, detailing general backstory and lore for the game, and it can be skipped if desired.  There is now a hints tab below the health and mana bars to provide players with help on what to do if they are stuck. When you level a ping sound will go off notifying you along with yellow text appearing below the experience bar, which is now at the top of the screen, telling you how many skill points you have.   If the player character ever gets stuck and unable to move or outside of the map, there is now a button on the pause screen that will fix the issue.  This is but a fraction of what has been done in regards to UI, but these are most likely the most notable features.

Combat has been better balanced to make it easier in the beginning and harder in the end.  The bosses no longer instantly kill the player, spawners now spawn monsters until they are destroyed, but at a slower rate, and the amount of monsters that can exist at one time is based on the player level.  This was added to prevent to many enemies being created which would lead to the game slowing down and making it extremely hard for the player to fight.

The most notable bug that was fixed, was the most game breaking one that would cause the player to be trapped in a room, with unable to move on.  This bug has been fixed for a while, and a lot of tests were ran to make sure.  Fixed a bug, causing some of the skill tree stats to not be applied to the character's stats. The options window now has working drop down boxes, one for texture quality, and another for window mode.
